DHT Presents SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, 7/20-8/12

DHT-Presents-SINGIN-IN-THE-RAIN-720-812-20010101

Diamond Head Theatre will present what's being described as "a musical masterpiece – Singin' in the Rain - featuring an impressive array of New York guest artists." Popular demand has already prompted an extension to August 12th

Playing Don Lockwood, the lead, (more commonly known as the "Gene Kelly" role) is professional actor and tap dancer Sean Quinn, whose credits include several national tours in shows such as Cinderella starring Tony award winner Lea SalongaDirty Rotten Scoundrels and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (playing Reuben).  Regional credits include A Chorus Line at North Shore Music Theatre (Bobby).  Other NYC guest artists include director Greg Zane and choreographer Jim Cooney.

The show is well known for the tap-dancing, and of course, the rain, but the storyline is appealing as well.  Don Lockwood is a popular silent film star.  He is often paired with Lina Lamont (played by Ahnya Chang), whom he can barely tolerate, though their studio links them romantically to increase their popularity.  Meanwhile, Ms. Lamont's career is in jeopardy with the advent of the studio's first talkie.  Her voice is a grating squeak, despite the help of an exasperated diction coach.

Don's chance meeting, and subsequent romance with chorus girl Kathy Selden (played by Marcela Biven), results in a big break for Kathy.  Don's best friend, Cosmo (played by Kyle Malis), comes up with the idea to dub Lina's voice with hers.  The movie is a smash hit, and the true star is revealed when the audience clamors for Lina Lamont to sing live!  Beloved songs include "Good Morning", "Make 'em Laugh", and of course, "Singin' in the Rain".

Singin' in the Rain now plays July 20 – August 12, 2012.  Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday – Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday, and Saturday matinees at 3 p.m. on July 28 and August 4.   Extended performances are Friday, August 10 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, August 11 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday, August 12 at 4 p.m.

Single tickets are priced from $12 to $42. Call 733-0274 to charge-by-phone or purchase tickets online atwww.diamondheadtheatre.com.
